Welcome to the Hearing Loss Evolution. Its goal is to live the best possible life for people with hearing loss and their friends, family and co-workers. It is driven by my personal experience of denial. This denial translated into both physical and emotional challenges, which is not a good prescription for a healthy, happy life with hearing loss.
I started losing my hearing when I was 20, with a gradual decline over the years. In my late fifties hearing became so challenging that I often dropped out of group settings. To make matters worse, I was embarrassed about it. Yes - I bought into the negative stereotypes of people with hearing loss being less intelligent, snobbish and the unmentionable, OLD. This affected me and everyone I came in contact with, as I often misheard what they said or pretended to hear when I didn’t.
Thankfully, with the support of friends and family, coupled with the two-year Peer Mentoring Degree from Gallaudet University, I gradually came to terms with my hearing loss. Now I am comfortable advocating for myself as well as embracing the technical tools available that enhances my hearing.
My goal is to share this valuable knowledge because knowledge is power. Let me provide you with tools to help you through your journey through one-on-one coaching, workshops and speaking engagements.
